Losing my edge…

I could go on for a very long time about how great LCD Soundsystem were, but I think one of the best ways to illustrate how great they were is through their impeccable taste. The song ‘Losing my edge’ was the first single they put out, its about the pointless one-upmanship music fans have and is also a great basis for a playlist..

So here is the song..

And my playlist of all the bands namechecked in the song, and yes the sonics do get mentioned four times, no bad thing. Its also worth noting there are a few stinkers in here so get your skip button ready…

Having one of those high fidelity moments..

Every so often I make mixtapes or playlists as we now call them, I put one foot in the digital age but still have a physical record collection I’m awkward like that. Anyway I have a number rules which must be adhered to at all times, like I say im awkward I think I must have derived these originally from Nick Hornby:

To me, making a tape is like writing a letter — there’s a lot of erasing and rethinking and starting again. A good compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do. You’ve got to kick off with a corker, to hold the attention (I started with “Got to Get You Off My Mind”, but then realized that she might not get any further than track one, side one if I delivered what she wanted straightaway, so I buried it in the middle of side two), and then you’ve got to up it a notch, or cool it a notch, and you can’t have white music and black music together, unless the white music sounds like black music, and you can’t have two tracks by the same artist side by side, unless you’ve done the whole thing in pairs and…oh, there are loads of rules.

One of my favorite playlists I’ve created was the first Northern Soul playlist I put togther, Im pretty sure I know next to nothing about the genre as a whole, I blame being born too late.. but hey its got some great tracks on it and maybe its a good introduction to the Genre?

Its called For when Sam is Moody because it always brightens her day when I play it and heres the link:
